Everything's Better in a British Accent

My impatience for June and my trip is unabated. The promise of summer--freedom from school, swimming in lakes, tanning, uninterrupted work on my novels, the Colorado Renaissance Fair, and most importantly, my trip to the UK--is the light at the end of my tunnel of droll college. And what, you wonder, does that have to do with the title of this post? Everything. Because, you see, one of the things helping tide me over until the trip is movies and TV shows starring--you guessed it--British actors.

Because everything's better in a British accent.

So, following on my last post about British and Scottish-set books, here is just a sampling of my favorite movies and TV shows starring British actors (or people speaking in British accents). A few of them even have Scottish actors!

Movies
  • The Lord of the Rings trilogy
  • Sherlock Holmes
  • Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
  • The Eagle
  • Thor
  • A Knight's Tale
  • X-Men: First Class
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (with the exception of Caspian's horrid Spanish accent)
  • Pride and Prejudice (Kiera Knightley version)
TV Shows
  • Sherlock
  • Merlin
  • Lie to Me
  • Robin Hood
  • MI-5
 Well. Until next time, mates.

    Books, Books, Books!

    Somewhere in Scotland...
I love books. And I love Scotland and England. Naturally, I must blog about two of my loves together when the opportunity presents itself.

First up: fiction! Here are some of great novels set in/about the United Kingdom.

    Scotland
    • In Freedom's Cause - A Story of Wallace and Bruce by G.A. Henty
    • The Crown and Covenant Trilogy by Douglas Bond
    England
    •  The Dragon and the Raven by G.A. Henty
    • Red Falcons of Tremione by Hendry Pert
    • The Hidden Treasure of Glaston by Eleonore M Jewett
    •  Enemy Brothers by Constance Slavery
    Set in both
    • Both Sides the Border by G.A. Henty
Set in Britain/Caledonia (ancient and early medieval United Kingdom)
    • Beric the Briton by G.A. Henty (set in Britain and Rome)
    • The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliffe
    • Hostage Lands by Douglas Bond
    • Wulf the Saxon - a Story of the Norman Conquest by G.A. Henty
    • The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White (Somewhat hard to read and slightly odd, and obviously not a true account, but interesting)
    About English away from England
    • The Brethren by H. Rider Haggard
    • Big John's Secret by Eleonaore M Jewett
    • Winning His Spurs by G.A. Henty
    • King Solomon's Mines and Queen Sheba's Ring by H. R. Haggard
    Scots away from Scotland
    • Faith and Freedom Trilogy by Douglas Bond
I would give you my favorite British authors, but a ton of my favorite authors are British. However, I'll give you my top two that aren't mentioned above:

    J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Naturally. ;)

As far as non-fiction is concerned:

    • AAA's Scotland Spiral Guide is a wonderful resource. I got it from my uncle and aunt a few years ago, and have read almost every word, and have read most of it several times.
    • Celtic Treasure - Unearthing the Riches of Celtic Spirituality by Liz Babbs is an awesome little book with gorgeous pictures and great thoughts.

    I'm Going Places!

Want to know exactly where I'm going and what I'll be doing on this trip? How about in picture form? Are you on Pinterest?

    Yes?

Sweet! You can check out my Pinterest board, 'I'm Going Places!,' and see pictures of the hotels I'll be staying at (yay for finally finding out where I'm staying! And they all look awesome!), and you can click through to their sites to see more information. I've posted and will be posting some of the sites I'm going to see, as well.

Eventually, though, I'll be able to post pictures here that I took! I'm so excited, it's ridiculous. :)
